toll increase from 01.12.2023
On December 1, 2023, CO₂ emission classes were introduced as a new tariff feature for truck tolls. The basis for this was the Toll Amendment Act at the time. A CO₂ price of 200 euros per tonne was used for the CO₂-related toll component. For toll-eligible vehicles with a technically permissible total mass of at least 7.5 tonnes, a toll rate differentiated by CO₂ emission class was added to the existing toll components. Depending on the vehicle class, this led to significantly higher toll rates at the time.

Exemptions from the toll
Emission-free heavy commercial vehicles play an important role in the transition of road freight transport to alternative powertrains. To promote their use, a toll exemption was introduced in Germany, which was valid for these vehicles until December 31, 2025.
